Rowena Chu

Co-founder and Chairman of the Board of Orion3 Group

Rowena Chu, our co-founder and Chairman of the Board of Orion3 Group, brings over 40 years of investment banking experience in corporate finance, M&A, debt and equity capital markets and had advised major corporations, including CK Group, on multiple M&A, and private and public markets financing transactions.

Prior to co-founding Orion3 Group in 2021, she was with Deutsche Bank AG (“DB”) for 20 years from 2001 to 2021, most recently as the Chairman of Hong Kong Coverage and Vice Chairman of Greater China Coverage within the Corporate & Investment Bank. During her time at DB, Ms. Chu led a number of notable deals including advising CK Hutchison Holdings Limited (“CKH”) in its sale of telecommunication towers to Cellnex Telecom, merger of Vodafone Hutchison Australia with TPG Telecom, Hutchison Telecommunications Hong Kong Holdings’ sale of its fixed-line telecommunications business, including Keen Clever Holdings Limited and HGC GlobalCentre Limited to I Squared Capital, Hutchison Port Holdings Trust Singapore’s initial public offering (“IPO”) which was the largest IPO on the Singapore Exchange Ltd. at that time, HUTCHMED’s US IPO, the monetization of shares in Vodafone Group Plc and Deutsche Telekom held by CKH, and the monetization of Yahoo!’s stake in Alibaba Group Holdings Ltd. (“Alibaba”).

Before becoming Vice Chairman of Greater China of DB, Ms. Chu was DB’s Chairman of equity capital markets (“ECM”) in Asia, where she raised DB’s league table ranking from 16th to 4th in Asia and led many of the world’s largest IPOs at the time including Alibaba’s IPO on the New York Stock Exchange, HKT Trust and HKT Limited’s IPO, NetEase, Inc.’s IPO, Industrial Commercial Bank of China’s IPO and Agricultural Bank of China’s IPO.

Prior to joining DB, Ms. Chu was Chief Financial Officer of ICG Asia Ltd. (“ICG Asia”) from 2000 to 2001. ICG Asia is a joint venture between ICG Inc. in the United States and CKH, and Ms. Chu was responsible for corporate structure development, capital raising and M&A activities at ICG Asia. Prior to joining ICG Asia, Ms. Chu worked at Merrill Lynch & Co. from 1998 to 2000 as the Head of Asia Technology Division, for ECM Origination.

Earlier in Ms. Chu’s investment banking career, she was with JPMorgan Chase & Co. (“JP Morgan”) for 12 years from 1986 to 1998, where she rose to lead its Global Markets business in debt and equity, structured credit and foreign exchange. Ms. Chu’s last position at JP Morgan was as Co-Head of its Greater China Division.

Ms. Chu received a Master of Business Administration degree from Boston University and a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Toronto. Ms. Chu was selected as the Top 20 Women in Finance in Asia by Finance Asia in 2011.
